A few days ago, myself and a friend got the train all the way up to Aviemore, in the Scottish Highlands (ish) for Mumford & Sons' Gentlemen Of The Road Stopover.
If you're not familiar with these Stopovers, they are small festivals that, "since 2012, have ‘Stopped-over’ in tiny rural towns (Dungog, Australia), small cities (Portland, Maine), places rich with history (Bristol, Virginia) or ancient tradition (Lewes, England), and tiny gems just waiting to be discovered (Dixon, Illinois)."
This year, they chose Aviemore for their only Stopover outside of America, and for good reason.
The tiny town of around 3000 people serves as a gateway to the stunning Cairngorm Mountains and has a host of quaint pubs and even more Mountaineering shops. The festival site was surrounded buy mountains, and was left completely exposed to the elements !
Typical of the Scottish weather, it rained (hard) for the first day, however we were treated to some sun on the second day.
