Tycho is the musical project of artist and producer Scott Hansen. Their blissful electronic-dream pop songs have been met with widespread acclaim and they recently completed a tour of the Far East, with multiple dates in Australia, Japan and China. They have also been announced as the support of popular angular-pop act Alt-J on their North and South American tour.
A couple of months ago, however, they graced the UK with their presence and I was lucky enough to go along !
In support of Tycho that night and on most dates since was fellow San Francisco resident Christopher Willits.
The two share a connection via the label Ghostly International, who have many great artists signed, and also produce amazing art and have recently expanded into producing their own line of branded items, such as watches, sunglasses and headphones.
Up until that night, having never heard of Christopher Willits it was safe to say I was in for a shock, as his latest effort "Opening" - a 'visual album' with an accompanying 45 minute film was projected onto the stage and him.
It was stunning.
It was a complete package, and a perfect balance between the visual film and the music.
I have linked the film below. I highly recommend you watch it, and let it take you away.
Tycho also projected art onto the stage, all created by Scott, as he is also a well known designer under the moniker ISO50.
The animations were perfectly timed with the music. I found out by chatting with Scott that these graphics are completely controlled by him on stage, allowing him to alter and adapt as the set progressed.
Their performance was breathtaking, and afterwards I felt completely at peace.
The beautiful music and visuals of Tycho had blown me away, and even today I look back on that night fondly, as one of the best concerts I have ever been to.
I can't wait till they come back.
